Visit your school, meet your scientist!

As part of the European Researchers’ Night, we again took part in the “Visit your school, meet your scientist” event. Our PhD students Viktoria Fedorova and Tomas Biro from the Department of Biophysics IEF SAS successfully popularized their research at three schools.

They presented their lecture called „Secrets of the microscopic world – proteins under the magnifying glass“ at Pavol Jozef Safarik Secondary school in Roznava, Secondary Medical School Moyzeska in Košice (at which Katarina Siposova, researcher from the Department of Biophysics also joined the presenters) and at Pavol Horov Secondary school in Michalovce.

Our PhD students shared their practical experience with high school students, explained the challenges they face in their scientific work, but also various methods which can be used to study proteins and how protein structures can be used not only in medical, but in the technological industry as well. The discussion was not only about scientific facts, but about the propagation of scientific work and research generally. Students had a unique opportunity to learn how does everyday life of a scientist looks like, which methods and technologies they use and what skills are necessary for success in this challenging, but fascinating profession.

Lectures have met the great interest of students of visited schools, who had the opportunity to find out how does the scientific work and life of (not only) their former students look like.
