SPACE::TALK #16 – Cosmic physics at Lomnický štít

2048

SPACE::TALK is regular meetup of the space research and cosmic engineering enthusiasts. The next SPACE::TALK #16 will be held on September 8, 2022 at Bulharská 4 (Institute of Experimental Physics SAS in Kosice).

Thanks to its altitude and infrastructure, Lomnický štít is the most suitable place for detection of the secondary cosmic rays’ particles. What can we learn about the space thanks to them? Is it possible to replace high altitude observatories by satellites? What principle is used for detection of the cosmic rays on the top of second highest mountain in High Tatras? These questions will be answered during the following SPACE::TALK. The second part will be dedicated to 65th anniversary of cosmic rays’ measurements in Observatory at Lomnický štít, which began back in 1957. Long-time observers will introduce the everyday life in the workplace under extreme weather conditions, historic photography as well as motivation for future development of cosmic physics research at Lomnický štít.

The guest speakers of the meetup will be members of the Department of Space Physics at the Institute of Experimental Physics SAS: Samuel Štefánik, Ronald Langer, Igor Strhárský, Ján Kubančák.
