Science Lair – World of low temperatures
On Saturday, July 30, 2022, Science Lair took place live, after a long time, in the Úsmev cinema at Kasárenské námestie 1 in Košice. Its topics included, among other things, superconductors.
In a fun scientific workshop intended for children they tested how different materials (organic or inorganic) behave when exposed to extremely low temperatures around -200°C. There was also talk about superconductors and the first functional prototype of a levitating train in Slovakia was demonstrated. The workshop was accompanied by scientists from the Institute of Experimental Physics SAS, Ing. Július Bačkai and Ing. Marek Kuzmiak, who were ready to answer any curious question.
The children could also try numerous scientific toys made by workshop @Vedecká hračka. Lecturer Mgr. Sidónia Tomášová Czetoová presented a selection from the traveling interactive exhibition “Technology – science toy”, which is intended for elementary schools. Among the toys with instructions for handling and use at school were, for example, magic wand, flipper, rattleback, UFO disc of reflections, paradoxical overflow, lamellar bubble, wind power plant, levitating pen… Each participant could play with each of the 25 unusual toys and discover, observe and consolidate magical knowledge from physics. It was also possible to make and take away the so-called frndžala.
I believe that this Science Lair entertained, educated and cooled all the children during these hot days 🙂
