2100

On July 1, 1993, Slovak Republic became a member country of intergovernmental scientific institution CERN. On this occasion, a celebration of this anniversary took place on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, under the patronage of the President of the Slovak Republic.

The celebration was attended by the Director of CERN for International Relations Mrs. Charlotte Warakaulle, representatives of the The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, the The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, the Slovak Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, representatives of institutions cooperating with CERN from both Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

The celebrations began with a morning program for high school students, where, in addition to lectures and a virtual visit of the ATLAS detector, students could try to build a cloud chamber with their own hands and see traces of cosmic radiation particles.

In the afternoon, a ceremonial meeting took place in the Science Park of Comenius University, where the invited guests gave their speeches. The representatives of the Slovak scientific community summarized what Slovakia has achieved in the 30 years of cooperation with CERN at the scientific level, in teaching students of various fields, and what benefit the cooperation it had for the Slovak industry.

The celebrations left a very good impression both on the CERN director and on the representatives of the ministries, who confirmed the great importance of cooperation between Slovakia and CERN and promised to support this cooperation in the future as well.
