Academy rewarded Notable personalities of the SAS 2026

During the ceremonial seminar Distinguished Personalities of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, fourteen honourees celebrating milestone anniversaries received a commemorative letter from the hands of SAS President Martin Venhart. The event was held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in the Dionýz Blaškovič Lecture Hall at the Institute of Virology of the Biomedical Research Center SAS in Bratislava, Patrónka.

“These meetings are very special, because not only do they allow us to honor colleagues who have left a significant mark on the Slovak Academy of Sciences, but through their stories we also learn about everything the Academy has been through, the challenges it has faced, and, last but not least, the achievements that these scientists have made possible,” said SAS President Martin Venhart in his speech.

Together with SAS President Martin Venhart, who presented the honorees with commemorative letters, the official ceremony also included congratulations accompanied by bouquets from the vice-presidents representing the individual SAS divisions of sciences – Pavol Hvizdoš, Daniela Antolová and Denisa Fedáková.

The musical accompaniment was provided by violin virtuoso Ivan Palovič, and the event was hosted by Juraj Turis.

Mira Nábělková delivered a speech of thanks on behalf of this year’s distinguished personalities. “Having the opportunity to work at Slovakia’s central scientific institution is a gift and, at the same time, a great responsibility – outwardly, towards society, and inwardly, towards the academic community,” she said, adding: “Slovakia itself is a great source of inspiration for Slovak science. Today has called upon us to feel gratitude for the opportunity, with the support of the Slovak Academy of Sciences as our home institution, to fulfil our own love of knowledge (which stands so high in the Platonic-Socratic scala amoris), together with the uplifting feeling of working together on a common endeavor. Thank you!”
