Experience Science with SAS

The Slovak Academy of Sciences, together with city of Košice, cordially invites you to a unique science popularization event – Experience Science with the SAS, which will take place on May 15-16, 2025 in the city center of Košice at Dolná brána.

Scientists from the Slovak Academy of Sciences will show children that science can be fun. Research teams from various scientific institutes and centers of the SAS will present their work, so children, students, and adults alike will have the opportunity to experience the work of a scientist through interactive activities, games, and experiments – whether they incline to biology, physics, archaeology or medicine.

At our institute’s booth, visitors can look forward to numerous interesting experiments and interactive demonstrations from the fields of physics, chemistry and biology. They will uncover the secrets of magnetic phenomena through games, experiments and exhibits. They’ll learn how nanoparticles change the properties of materials and will have the chance to observe the “magnetic hedgehog” in live action—a magnetic fluid that responds to a magnetic field.

Vacuum experiments will show how sound travels, working principle of vacuum cleaners and why water boils at different temperatures depending on pressure. Visitors will experience extreme conditions at liquid nitrogen temperatures, revealing what happens to everyday objects at -200°C. Magnetic levitation will also be demonstrated, where a model train will float above the track.

Visitors will also dive into the world of microscopes, uncovering the hidden secrets of the microscopic world. In the “World of Proteins” section, they will learn in an engaging way where proteins can be found, what is their structure and what roles they play in our bodies.
