Dr. Zuzana Bednáriková won the Best young scientists of the SAS award
On June 16, 2022, a seminar of the Best young scientists of the SAS under the age of 35 took place in the Main Hall of the Slovak Academy of Sciences at Watsonova Street in Košice. After the competition, as it has already became a festive tradition, the evening concert Youngs to Youngs – Artists to Scientists took place this year for the 20th time. On this occasion, compositions by Richard Strauss and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov were performed at the Palace of Arts in Košice. After the concert, the best young scientists of the Slovak Academy of Sciences were awarded by the President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, prof. Pavel Šajgalík.
The seminar of the winners of the Best young scientists of the SAS competition was again an opportunity to get to know the scientific work of colleagues across the institutes and departments of the SAS. Talented scientists presented their interesting research topics and the latest results.
Our young scientist Dr. Zuzana Bednáriková, member of the Department of Biophysics was awarded the 1st place in the SAS Scientific section 1, and here we would like to congratulate her . The complete results of the Best young scientists of the SAS can be found here.
The program continued in the evening at the Palace of Arts in Košice, where the scientific and art worlds merged together. Clarinetist Johannes Schittler and bassoon player Jan Hudeček presented themselves on the stage as part of the 20th year of the Youngs to Youngs – Artists to Scientists concert. Compositions by Richard Strauss Die schweigsame Frau op. 80 – Potpourri and Duet-Concertino for clarinet and bassoon, string orchestra and harp in F major, together with Symphony No. 2 in F minor Op.9 “Antar” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov were performed under the baton of Robert Jindra, chief conductor of the Slovak State Philharmonic Košice.
The award ceremony took place after the concert. At the beginning, Branislav Peťko, the organizer of the Youngs to Youngs – Artists to Scientists concert series, commemorated the beginnings of this event. He reminded that the concert of young artists was the result of the Zlatá nota (Golden note) competition, intended for performers and singers of the Conservatory school, who had the honor of performing as soloists together with the orchestra of the Slovak State Philharmonic Košice. He realized the idea of connecting this event with scientists together with Július Klein, former director of Slovak State Philharmonic Košice.
President of the SAS prof. Pavol Šajgalík thanked the organizers of the event and Lucia Potokárová, host of the evening and director of Slovak State Philharmonic Košice. He emphasized that science and the arts are close to each other, because both professions need talent and endurance to succeed, sometimes with a little bit of luck. “I am very pleased to present diplomas here to our young scientists under the age of 35, who lack neither talent nor endurance and will therefore be awarded today,” he added.
