Recognition and inspiration were the main mottos of the award ceremony for outstanding publications of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) from 2024. The event took place on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the Small Congress Centre of the VEDA publishing house of the SAS. The awarded scientists received their awards from Martin Venhart, President of the SAS, and Tom\u00e1\u0161 Hrom\u00e1dka, Vice President of the SAS for Science, Research, and Innovation. The results of long, thorough, and systematic work of individuals and collectives were recognized in the following categories: Outstanding Journal Publications, Nature Index Publications, Outstanding Scientific Monographies, and Publications in Journals Listed in the Norwegian Register.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAwarding of outstanding publications is a typical event that shows that the present and the future depends on top-level science. I am glad that we have gathered here to honor the best,\u201d<\/em> said President of the SAS Martin Venhart in his ceremonial speech, reminding that the Slovak Academy of Sciences has gone through a challenging period. \u201cI would never have thought that we would have to prove the elementary pillars of science, yet at the same time, as an institution, we have never felt such strong public support \u2013 thanks also to your work, which is an inspiration for others,\u201d<\/em> emphasized the SAS President.<\/p>\n

The Vice President of the SAS for Science, Research, and Innovation, Tom\u00e1\u0161 Hrom\u00e1dka, highlighted that this is still a very \u201cyoung\u201d event, one that does not yet have a long tradition. \u201cFormer SAS Vice President Peter Samuely, the originator of the idea of awarding outstanding publications, knew why it is important to recognize people whose work proves the high quality of the SAS, that top research is being carried out here, and that when it comes to awarding, there is plenty to choose from,\u201d<\/em> Hrom\u00e1dka explained, recalling the history of the event, which has been held since 2017, and expressed his conviction that the event has a promising future. \u201cThe SAS still has much to show, and there is always something to choose from,\u201d<\/em> he noted, wishing the awardees, among other things, greater competition \u2014 which always drives science forward.<\/p>\n
