On Thursday, June 17, 2021, winners of the competition joined a\u00a0scientific seminar, which was held in the Hall of the SAS on Watsonova street, to present their research to the members of the\u00a0Presidium of SAS, as well as\u00a0<\/strong><strong>representatives of SAS institutes. In the evening, participants moved to Palace of Arts, where the President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Professor Pavol \u0160ajgal\u00edk, and the competition\u00a0<\/strong><b>guarantor, Professor \u013dubica Lacinov\u00e1, awarded them diplomas. After the ceremony, they attended concert named Young to Young &#8211; Artists to Scientists performed by musicians of the State Philharmonic and talented seventeen-year-old Czech\u00a0pianist J\u00e1n \u010cmelja.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Everyone is motivated not only by economic profit and high money reward but also by the recognition of the community which they respect. That is why SAS motivates young scientists by such<\/em> <em>rewards,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>said after the concert the President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Professor Pavol \u0160ajgal\u00edk, who considers awarding of young scientists in the premises of State Philharmonic in Ko\u0161ice as an excellent connection. <em>&#8221; Both scientific as well as artistic work require lots of creativity, talent and hard work on self-development&#8221;<\/em> he added. Competition of the Young Scientists of the SAS is demanding, yet the committee has a wide range of works to choose from and reward the best ones every year. The current year of the competition was characterized by very high quality of the submitted works.\u00a0This is evident by the unusually high number of honorable mentions awarded. <em>&#8220;I am very proud of the new young generation of scientists we have in SAS,&#8221;<\/em> said Ale\u0161 Ku\u010dera, member of the committee representing 1st scientific section.<\/p>\n<p>The diplomas were personally received in the Palace of Arts in Ko\u0161ice by: Lucia Balej\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1, member of the Institute of Hydrology, who won the 1st price for &#8220;Physico-chemical study of\u00a0ferritin derivatives for applications in environmental studies&#8221;; Kateryna Kamyshnykova, member of the Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics,\u00a0who won the 2nd price for &#8220;Design, processing, and properties of TiAl-based alloys for industrial application&#8221;;\u00a0<strong>Mat\u00fa\u0161 Orend\u00e1\u010d, member of the Institute of Experimental Physics SAS, who won the 3rd price for &#8220;Research of magnetocaloric effect in frustrated TmB4 metal system&#8221;<\/strong>; and Ivan Shepa, member of the Institute of Material Research, who received honorable mention award for &#8220;Development of precursor and ceramic fibers using the technology of needle-less electrospinning&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In the second scientific section, the\u00a0honorable mention award was given to Peter Boh\u00e1\u010d, member of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, for &#8220;Photophysical properties of hybrid systems based on layered silicates and cyanine dyes&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>3rd scientific section was represented by\u00a0Daniela Glavani\u010dov\u00e1, member of the\u00a0Institute of Philosophy, who placed 1st with &#8220;(Im)possibility in esthetics&#8221;; Veronika Szeghy-Gayer, member of the\u00a0Institute of Social Sciences at\u00a0Centre of Social and Psychological Sciences, placed 3rd for &#8220;Research of the elites in Slovakia in different\u00a0regimes, 1867-1945&#8221;; and\u00a0Michal \u0160\u010dep\u00e1n, member of the\u00a0Institute of Musicology, who received\u00a0honorable mention award for &#8220;Tade\u00e1\u0161 Salva. Life and work: On the issue of monographic processing of the composer&#8217;s personality and interpretation of his work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1926 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/websrv.saske.sk\/uef\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/Orendac-SMV-SAV-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/websrv.saske.sk\/uef\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/Orendac-SMV-SAV-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/websrv.saske.sk\/uef\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/Orendac-SMV-SAV-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/websrv.saske.sk\/uef\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/Orendac-SMV-SAV-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/websrv.saske.sk\/uef\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/Orendac-SMV-SAV.jpg 1228w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Later, the talented seventeen-year-old pianist from Czechia, Jan \u010cmejla, performed together with the State Philharmonic under the conductor baton of Leo\u0161 Sv\u00e1rovsk\u00fd. He played Chopin&#8217;s Piano Concerto in E minor, which he considers to be one of the most famous, most beautiful, but also technically and interpretatively most difficult piano concerts. <em>&#8220;I think we need Chopin at this time of coronavirus. His music is timeless and brings us hope! \u201d\u00a0<\/em>said \u010cmejla.
